TONY FAUST SALOON WAS THE PRIDE OF THE WEST!

Antique Advertising CollectiblesBy Randy HuetschJanuary 29, 2023

Wow! I was fortunately to recently pick up an amazing piece of St. Louis, MO history. Featured today is an early Tiger wood coin bank from the once famous Tony Faust restaurant which was at 4th and Elm Street. This location is now under the Gateway Arch grounds in downtown Saint Louis. The coin bank…

JUNG’S BREWERY SERVED YOU RIGHT!

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschJanuary 15, 2023

Wow! Here is a beautiful self-framed tin sign from the Jung Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, circa 1900. I love this image but how the woman in a nightgown sitting on the edge of a bed serving you right relates to the beer being advertised is interesting in itself. What I do know is the image…

Mt. Vernon Pure Rye Whiskey Self Framed Tin Sign, Cook & Bernheimer Co, New York, N.Y. Circa 1910

“IT’S SQUARE” WAS ALL THAT WAS NEEDED TO BE SAID APPARENTLY!

WhiskeyBy Randy HuetschDecember 16, 2022

The well known Mt. Vernon Pure Rye Whiskey brand was a brand created distributed and marketed by the Cook & Bernheimer Company based in New York, N.Y. As shown in this self framed tin sign, the brand was advertised simply as “It’s Square” on this piece. I find this rather unique and interesting that was…

DRAKO COFFEE USED A DRAKE MALLARD TO SELL THEIR COFFEE!

CoffeeBy Randy HuetschNovember 27, 2022

The Drake and Company coffee manufacturer which was based in Easton, PA was a very successful company at one time. Their flagship brand was Drako Coffee, obviously a takeoff of the Drake Company name, and with an easy tie into to a drake mallard duck as shown on the image of the can label. This…

ZIPP’S CHERRI-O FOLLOWED THE “O” SOFT DRINK TREND!

SodaBy Randy HuetschNovember 13, 2022

This particular metal or tin serving tray from the Zipp’s Cherri-O brand is truly a beautiful tray with the robin drinking the delicious drink with a straw! I always found this depiction amusing as I can hardly imagine a bird using a straw to drink with, but some artist years ago thought of it and…

STUNNING ST. LOUIS TEMPLE OF COMMERCE TRAY FROM THE ST. LOUIS ABC BEER BRAND OVERSAW THE WORLD IN 1900!

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschOctober 16, 2022

I have always loved the colors and the incredible image used by The American Brewing Company out of Saint Louis, Missouri in the early 1900’s. As shown here, the company chose to use a beautiful illustration of a woman overseeing her temple like garden and looking down at the river commerce for their metal advertising…

GARLAND STOVE & RANGES CO. BRAND’S FUNNY DOG BITE THREAT AMUSED MANY! Circa 1900

Antique Advertising CollectiblesBy Randy HuetschJuly 17, 2022

Featured is a rather comical lithograph from the Garland Stove and Range Company which was based in Detroit, MI. This is a funny litho featured the claim “Please shut the door or beware of the dog”. The interesting thing is the image of what appears to be a bulldog with eye glasses and an old…

ADAM SCHEIDT BREWING BROUGHT THE BEER IN 1898!

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschJune 12, 2022

I love the graphics on this rare 1898 lithographic calendar from the Adam Scheidt Brewery which was based in Norristown, PA at one time. If you look closely, the flowing robed woman has a stein of beer in her hand and appears to be on her way to bring the product to someone. This litho…

HAMILTON BROWN SHOE’S GUARANTEE MADE BY GOING UNDER THE KNIFE!

Antique Advertising CollectiblesBy Randy HuetschMay 8, 2022

I find this antique advertising sign interesting to say the least. The Hamilton Brown Shoe Company, which in the early 1900’s when this sign was made was the largest shoe manufacturer in the United States. Apparently the company was so proud of their products that they used the ad campaign, “Under the Knife” to demonstrate…

Geo. Ehret's Hell Gate Brewery, Serving Tray. N.Y.C., N.Y. Ca. 1915 Fox Lake Brewing Co. Serving Tray, Fox Lake, WI. Circa 1910 Schmidt's City Club Sign, Jacob Schmidt Brewery, St. Paul, MN The Bartholomay Brewing Company was originally founded in 1852 as Will and Bartholomay. In 1857, Philip Bartholomay bought out his partner and renamed the company Bartholomay Brewing Company. Bartholomay grew to be a very substantial brewery, with production of about 180,000 barrels in 1888. In 1889, it absorbed two other local breweries (Rochester Brewing and Gennesee Brewing) as well as two Rochester malting house to become the Bartholomay Brewing conglomerate. The company's symbol was a rather unusual one, a wheel with two outstretched wings. Like many Rochester Brewers, Bartholomay had agents that bottled and sold its products in other states, including W.W. Walker & Company of Hagerstown, Maryland, John S. Low of Carlisle, Pennsylvania, and William Albrecht of Boston, Massachusetts. Bartholomay operated successfully until Prohibition but, although both Rochester and Genesee reopened after Repeal, Batholomay did not. Some of Bartholomay's brands, such as Apollo Beer, were later used by the American Brewing Co. of Rochester.
