Derby Coffee 2lb Tin Can, Meyer-Schmid Grocer Co., St. Louis, MO. Circa 1920

Here is a great looking Derby Mocha and Java tin can from the Meyer-Schmid Grocer Company which was based in the Saint Louis, MO marketplace in the early 1900s. This particular derby brand image was used by other coffee companies besides just the Meyer Schmid corporation, and the same image and coloring were incorporated on those other competitor cans too.

Not much is known about the Meyer-Schmid Grocer, however, they were active in STL as early as 1904 when they were located in the Cupples Block at 417 and 419 S. Seventh Street, and were also at 213 W. Broadway before they finally settled in the 1930-1940s era in the 1500 block of North Broadway, of which many of those older buildings still stand today. I am a collector of Meyer-Schmid and other early St. Louis coffee and antique advertising items, so if you have anything, please reach out to me if you have a moment.
