Loyalhanna Brewing Co, Monastery Beer Serving Tray, Latrobe, PA. Circa 1900

This tray has always made me smile. The idea of a beer called Monastery from the Loyalhanna Brewing Company in Latrobe, Pennsylvania was apparently a good idea back around 1900 when this tray was produced for the brewery. I love the colors, the elegantly labeled beer bottle, and for whatever reason, the $5,000 reward listed on the bottom of the tray face just under the bottle? Why, I have no idea, but the brewery obviously had a reason at that time to include it on their tray. The bottle is a foil neck version, and a blob style, so the tray is early, circa 901 or just after.

Opened in 1901, the brewery lasted in small town Latrobe until prohibition ended their run in 1920. It appears the brewery tried to reopen again upon the repeal of prohibition around 1934, but were unsuccessful as far as I can tell as I cannot find any history on their re-opening at that time, other than an attempt.
