Johnson-Layne Coffee Company, Log Cabin Store Bin, St. Louis, MO. Circa 1910

JOHNSON-LAYNE’S LOG CABIN COFFEE AND THEIR UNUSUAL STORE BIN!

CoffeeBy Randy HuetschNovember 30, 2019

The Log Cabin brand tin general store coffee bin featured here has always been one that fascinated me, simply because of the detail of the tin itself.   The Johnson-Layne Coffee Company went all out when they designed this store bin, finely detailing the look of a primitive log cabin, complete with a detachable brick chimney. …

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschNovember 17, 2019

Here is an early reverse on glass sign framed in a gesso frame from the Olympia Brand of beer, out of Olympia, WA.  It’s made from Tumwater, and this slogan has lasted for years, as did the horseshoe brand design in the center with the waterfall.   This early pre-prohibition sign is from about 1900-1905.

AMERICAN FIRE INSURANCE CO. EAGLE EXUDES PATRIOTISM!

Antique Advertising CollectiblesBy Randy HuetschNovember 3, 2019

The American Fire Insurance Company boldly used the American Eagle as their symbol to help demonstrate patriotism at it’s finest.   I am not sure why the eagle image was used so often with insurance companies, but the American Fire Insurance Company of New York City was one of many insurers which incorporated this american patriotic…

The Saint Bruno Standard Dark Flake Smoking Tobacco was a large seller for years, and still was in business as late as the 1970’s being sold in tobacco shops all around the European area as well as inside the United States.  This particular metal sign is very colorful, and certainly would have garnered the attention…

DEPPEN BREWING COMPANY REVERSE ON GLASS CORNER SIGN, READING, PA. Ca. 1915

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschOctober 20, 2019

The Deppen Brewery formerly located in Reading, Pennsylvania put out two beautiful boxed Reverse on Glass wood framed corner signs, prior to prohibition.  Interestingly, these two varieties are the most common corner signs from that era, as boxes of them were found behind a wall in the brewery, or in a railroad car (I have…

STUNNING J.G. SCHEMM BREWING CO. EXUDES BEAUTY!

BrewerianaBy Randy HuetschOctober 12, 2019

This beautiful serving tray from the J. G. Schemm Brewery in Saginaw, MI is one of the prettier pre-prohibition serving trays I have seen in a long time.  The colors are simply unique and the image of what appears almost to emulate a stained glass window in the center differentiates the tray from others.   The…
