Here is a beautiful porcelain rounded corner sign from the Conway Brothers Brewery in Troy, New York from around 1910 or so. This beauty emblazons patriotic red, white and blue colors while featuring a vivid image of Uncle Sam himself sitting on a few beer kegs helping push the Conway companies Ale product! I love this sign as this was produced in a time when patriotism was in a fever after the United States had just finished winning the Spanish-American War in the late 1800’s, and the future was a bit uncertain with the ongoing tension which eventually led the Americans into the First World War. Many signs of this era featured Uncle Sam with patriotic language or verbiage through the companies advertising campaign of that era.
The Conway Bros. Brewery started in 1883 in Troy, and through a few partnership variations including being called Conway Bros. & Kane Brewing around 1900 for a few short years, the Conway Brothers brewery finally succumbed to the incoming dark years of prohibition, officially closing in Troy in the year 1916. The company was only in business during the pre-prohibition era, and was not opened again once prohibition ended in 1933.
