Nave & McCord Tin Coffee Bin, St. Joseph,. MO. Circa 1910

I love this beautiful tin coffee bin advertising the prolific Nave & McCord Mercantile Company in Saint Joseph, Missouri. The coloring on this tin is very bold, and the lettering is larger than typically seen on many general store large coffee bins of this era, circa 1900-1910. The Nave & McCord business was a large one, and after seeing several versions of their bins in different shapes and styles, I can tell they were a dominant seller of coffee and tea in that area, north of Kansas City, MO.

Formed in 1857 before the Pony Express ran through St. Joseph, and was incorporated in 1880. Unfortunately, competition got the best of them, and in 1929 the business was sold to the Western Grocer Company in Marshalltown, IA. There are a few Nave & McCord buildings in a few towns outside St. Joe, however, the main building in St. Joe burned down in 2016. Hence the end of an era in St. Joseph came to an end.
