This Goodyear Boot Company sign is a great example of how companies evolve oftentimes over time to suit business needs. Long before the need for goodyear rubber tires became apparent, people needed rubber boots to keep their feet dry since the dawn of time. And the Goodyear Company was one of the early manufacturers of rubber boots for both men and women. The Gold Seal Boot was one of their best sellers, and as they exclaim on this tin sign, the were the “Best Made”. Whether that is true or not, no one is alive from that era to say yes or no!
Goodyear was founded in 1898 and in addition to sell boots, they sold rubber bicycle tires, carriage tires, horseshoe pads and other rubberized items before the invention of the automobile which truly set the business on fire with an unprecedented need as the cars became a way of life for all Americans. Today the company is known as the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company and remains based in Akron, OH.
