I love this antique sign from the H. Fendrich cigar manufacturing company out of Evansville, Indiana advertising their flagship offering with the Charles Denby cigar brand. The sign advertises their 250,000 cigar daily output which is huge in the 1900 era when this piece was made. “Such A Goodness” was touted well before the United States Government literally stopped most of the advertising allowed and especially claims which touted any kind of health related benefits from smoking cigars or cigarettes, pipe tobacco smoking, etc. This sign is neat as it shows a sophisticated gentleman in his finest attire enjoying one of the Denby brand cigars.
The Fendrich Cigar Company employed 1,500 people by 1910 and was the largest employer in Evansville in that time period. The opened a new factory in that city in 1912 and remained in business until 1969. Other brands produced by the company included Little Gun, Red Ruby, Diamond Joe, La Fendrich, Casa Nova, Black Hawk, Aaron Burr, Mrs. Fiske, El Cuto, and many other brands too!
