Dwinell-Wright Coffee and Roasting Company
The early pioneer Dwinell-Wright Coffee and Roasting Company in Boston put out so much early quality advertising of early Americana, collectors can today still add some amazing items from the company. Featured here is a stunning yellow painted General Store coffee bin from the company advertising their Boston Roasted Java & Mocha. The top of the bin features a logo and also has Cincinnati printed within the logo. This bin was probably sold out of the Cincinnati branch, which was an important shipping port for the company along with St. Louis, MO.
The Dwinell-Wright Coffee Company was started by Mr. Dwinell in 1845 however, the name did not become Dwinell-Wright until 1899. Their most famous brand of coffee was the White House brand, which sold nationwide, and propelled the company to become “The largest coffee roasting and producing company in the world”. This fact is often times found on their early coffee and tea containers.
The company was located in Boston for many years at 35-49 Batterymarch Street, but moved to 311 Summer Street in the historic Boston Wharf area in 1904. They would remain at the Summer Street location until they eventually closed between 1958-1960. Fortunately, collectors today are left with many phenomenal coffee and tea containers from the company as reminders of their dominance long before Starbucks or Pete’s coffees were even a glimpse in anyone’s mind.
