I love this metal serving tray, and of course, I like pre-prohibition era trays with the factory scene of the brewery building on them. This particular brewery tray from the Brooklyn New York based Excelsior Brewing Company touted their pilsener and German style lager beers which were the company’s trademark or flagship styles of beer.
The Excelsior Brewery was located on the 200 block of Pulaski Street between Throop and Sumner streets in Brooklyn, N.Y. prior to prohibition. It is interesting to know there were multiple Excelsior breweries located around the U.S. in various cities, including a rather large one in St. Louis, MO at this time prior to prohibition. While not the largest of breweries in Brooklyn. Founded by hotel owner John Reisenweber, the brewery was one of dozens located in Brooklyn at that time. After prohibition the Kings Brewery was located in the same building which had been the Excelsior brewery for a short time, but by the 1950’s the brewery was no longer useful, and the building was torn down. If you have any Excelsior Brewery items from New York or St Louis for that matter, I am a buyer and would love to hear from you.
