Henry Zeltner Brewing Co. Serving Tray, New York City, N.Y. Circa 1900.

The Henry Zeltner Brewing Company put out several metal serving trays in the pre-prohibition era during the early 1900’s. Each one is interesting as they all advertise their beer was “absolutely pure” on their trays. The Zeltner brewery was apparently best known for their lager beer brand as that was the style most commonly used in their advertising declarations. The company put out both round style trays like the one shown here, but also put out oval trays, most likely a bit earlier than the round ones as most oval trays are a bit earlier in age than their round counterparts in the breweriana advertising industry of the early 1900’s.

The Zeltner Brewery was located at 170th street and 3rd Avenue in the Bronx borough of New York City. The brewery started operations in 1860 and was in business until 1909. After a thorough review, just about every advertising item the company put out had their slogan “absolutely pure” listed on them inside their triangular emblem. Why the Zeltner brewery closed is unknown to me.
