Here is a beautiful and rare wood box from the Star Beverage Company, formerly the Star Brewery which was based in Belleville, Illinois for many years, both pre and post prohibition. During the prohibition years, many breweries produced soft drinks, near beers, and other food products in order to keep their employees going and to keep their machinery running in the hopes that Prohibition would not last too long. Unfortunately it lasted 13 years, so many breweries simply closed during those dark years. The Cerex brand is not well known to local collectors, so it must not have been a big seller for the Star Beverage Company. Today collectors are left with items like this box as a reminder of a brand long gone. If you have any Cerex items, I am a collector and would like to hear from you!
