The Commonwealth Distillery produced an amazing Reverse on Glass image factory scene sign around 1895, featured here. While Louisville dominated the distilling business, and still does, Lexington also had some prominent distilleries including the Commonwealth Factory as shown here.
Unfortunately competition and financial issues started to hit the owners who had started the distillery in 1880 as the Stoll, Clay & Company. By 1905 the business was shifted to Sandersville and the plant was destroyed in 1905. Today we are left with a beautiful legacy piece prominently featuring the once flourishing distillery in it’s heyday.
