Closset & Devers Roasted Coffee Store Counter Bin, Portland, OR. Circa 1900

Here is a beautiful and very colorful general store era coffee bin from the long defunct Closset and Devers Mercantile Company out of Portland, Oregon. This particular bin was used in an old store most likely within 100 miles or so from Portland and allowed a long ago merchant to have his customers pull out coffee beans in bulk in order to make their own coffee when they were at home. The Closset and Devers partnership was formed when Arthur Devers joined the Closset Brothers firm in the 1880s. The company was best known for their early adoption of the vacuum-packed style of coffee, ensuring freshness for their customers.
